Today, is one of those brilliant spring days, blue sky, warm sun, every green thing bursting forth with colour and a day to celebrate. Stephen and Aleha are celebrating their 10th Anniversary-today, May 15th, 2009. As parents, we watched our first born grow to be a kind, loving, funny man of great character for which we rejoice. As parents we watched Steve choose a partner well, a talented, beautiful, funny and very smart woman, causing us to burst with pride. Is that not what we desire the most for our children-a wonderful and loving spouse. Someone to share the dance of life.
Steve & Aleha were married in the Canadian Memorial Church on May 15, 1999. What a glorious building to celebrate a marriage. It was build in the 1920’s to remember all the fallen soldiers of the first world war and to commerate peace.
It was the perfect mix of tradition and contemporary as they spoke their written vows to each other. The sunlight through the stained glass windows (magnificent scenes) filled the church. It was truly a joyous moment. Stephen wrote a poem which was read before they were pronounced husband and wife. Ah, where is that poem now? We need to hear it again.
Steve & Aleha chose the Georgia Hotel for their reception. It is another heritage building in Vancouver. In 1999 a major renovation had just been completed. The ballroom was beautiful. During the renovation the “Juliette” balcony was re-discovered. Aleha stood between the arches as she throw the bouquet to the young beauties waiting below.
The food-delicious, the cake-divine and the party was on. One of the best moments during the reception was the wedding party singing to Steve & Aleha. They sang Green Day’s song-“Time Of Your Life.” It was so sweet and loving.
Watching their friends, our friends and family enjoy the wedding was a great delight. The grins were wide and the celebration was wonderful. Such perfect memories. We always remember the laughter of that day. As Linda said, “It’s like the royal wedding.” Not quite, but very, very close. It was magical. All the planning, all the angst, all the tears and the search for the perfect wedding dress was forgotten. We remember the best part-the love.
See, how blessed we are! On their 5th anniversary, Steve and Aleha traveled to Italy, spending their anniversary in Cinque Terra overlooking the Mediterranean sea. How lucky are they? VERY!
They love Italy. I think there is a theme in the family-all things Italian. The country, the food, the wine and the shoes. The perfect setting to celebrate five years of marriage.
Watching these past 10 years as they have completed their education, moved into a great condo, found good jobs and continue wonderful friendships, we cannot keep from smiling. To have Aleha in our life is a gift. To have them happy in life-a great joy.
